06 glaze shivering

Postby Starchild » Mon Mar 07, 2016 9:43 am

I recently caste a piece that I had sculpted and made a mold for, using a Laguna terra cotta slip with the addition of cellulose fiber. The piece went through a 04 bisque fire with out a hitch. But the glaze firing ( I used Mayco Foundation opaque 06 glazes because liked the colors they offered, that were a match for my project ) But , alas, It seems the glaze was not a good fit for the clay body because the glaze shivered off and then the whole thing cracked into several pieces. A total shock as we watched it happen! Wondering if anyone could shed some light on what may have happened and perhaps driect me to a successful completion to this project. I could e-mail a picture to clarify.
